Quiet Bliss

A new mother and her baby asleep on her shoulder is one of those scenes that I never tire of shooting. Originally shot in colour about 3 years ago, I find that for some subject material, colour gets in the way. For me, the Black & White rendition is more satisifying, as it seems to convey a simple sense of serenity and quiet bliss. I hope you enjoy it also.

Waterfountain at Amherstburg, Ont.

Happy 2009 to you all. Today I found my way out to Amherstburg, Ontario, and after wandering about the King's Navy Yard Park for about a half hour, I decided to grab a shot of this figure on a fountain that was near the entrance of the park. The lighting was not great, but I decided to give it a go anyway. Besides, I wanted to give the antishake feature of my Maxxum 7D a good test. This shot was taken with a Minolta AF 75 ~ 300 mm zoom lens (105 ~ 450 on the 7D) The lens was at about 425 mm and about 1/30 of a second, with the antishake switch on, hand held. I was quite pleased at how well it worked. I just may yet get used to going without the tripod.
